ALTURRICK KENNEY
FOR COUNCILMAN-AT-LARGE
OFFICIAL STATEMENT
January 6, 2014
I announce my intention to seek the elected office of Councilman-At-Large in the city of Newark, NJ.
I have decided to seek this office after the strong positive community response to my previous pursuit of the office of Central Ward Councilman. I am sure that each Newark citizen has seen our great city from a variety of perspectives. I have seen Newark as a district leader, as a city administrator, labor union leader, and most recently, as a member of the Newark Public Schools Advisory Board. It is through these lenses that I have built a platform that resonates with citizens throughout the entire city.
Gladly, I have dedicated 20+ year of service to our city. Serving as Councilman-At-Large would only be a continuation of my efforts to positively impact the community. Throughout my tenure as a public servant I have always advocated for high quality education, job growth, public safety and access to affordable housing.
I am proud to have been born and raised in Newark. I feel privileged that I have had the opportunity to live and work in Newark after furthering my education at Howard University and George Washington University.
As Councilman-At Large I will ensure that all of the citizens of the city of Newark benefit from the progress that will continue to be made, we will only prosper as a community when everyone is included in the vision of success for our city.
